Sync to Palm

Introduction

If you have a Palm handheld or Palm-based Treo smartphone (such as Treo 600, Treo 650, Treo 700p, Treo 755p or Palm Centro) then you can carry most of the 1Password information with you in an encrypted Palm database. Special 1Password application for Palm will help you to list, search, and view the online passwords, wallet items and secure notes. The current version of 1Password for Palm is a read-only program and does not support adding or modifying information on Palm.

Requirements

To use 1Password for Palm you require the following prerequisites:

  1. Palm or Treo device with Palm OS 4.0 or higher.
  2. Application requires 120K of memory, plus additional space for the encrypted database.
  3. Encrypted database requires approximately 500 bytes per item. For example, 1000 items require approximately 500KB.

How to Sync

To send your data to Palm, click on Sync to Palm toolbar button or select Share > Sync to Palm menu. You will see the Sync to Palm window: Sync to Palm window

  1. Select the handheld and location on the handheld from the drop-down lists.
  2. Enter the Access Code which will be used to encrypt your information. You will be asked to enter the same Access Code on Palm later. The Access Code is chosen by you. You can use your current Master Password as the Access Code, or choose another secret text that can be easier to enter on your Palm. We recommend that the Access Code is at least 8 characters long to better protect your data.
  3. Click Sync Now button to generate encrypted 1Password Palm database and application.
  4. Use HotSync to sync your Palm.

Using 1Password for Palm

HotSync will install 1Password Palm database and application to your Palm. See these 1Password for Palm Tutorial for more information about using 1Password on Palm.

Troubleshooting

I do not see any handhelds displayed in the window. 1Password determines the list of handhelds by looking in Documents/Palm/Users folder in your home folder. This folder is created when you first sync your Palm or Treo using HotSync available in Palm Desktop for Mac or Missing Sync for Palm OS programs. You will need to install one of these programs and HotSync your handheld at least once.

Alternatively you can click on the small triangle button beside Folder: and choose any folder on your Mac. After the Sync is completed, copy 1Password.pdb and 1Password.prc files from the folder you selected onto a SD Memory Card and you can use it on your handheld without HotSync.
